About St Clare’s Foundation.

St Clare’s Foundation is a registered charity in the UK. Deborah Martinelli Bonavia is the appointed World Ambassador for the Foundation, giving invaluable help to raise funds. Every penny raised goes directly to the project in Kenya.

Currently, the Foundation works with the Sisters to support Aids widows and pays for the orphans’ education. We have also established a childrens’ daycare centre in the area of Koliech, in Nyanza. This provides a safe place for the orphans to come during the day where they are given a meal, clothes and their school fees are paid. As the Aids crisis deepens, the Sisters are increasingly being asked to help. Desperate children and grandparents come to them, pleading, “you are my last hope”. A more established children’s home is urgently needed to cope with the worsening situation.

About the Sisters:

The Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph was started in Kenya in 1932. Today, there are 400 Sisters who work across Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Their mission is to help the poor. Every Sister is well educated and the order has 50 years’ experience of running humanitarian projects including clinics, homes for abandoned babies, help for the elderly, schools and, increasingly, support for AIDS widows and orphans.
